What your RPA process hates the most today

The short answer: Emails. The long answer: Emails.  You have set up a seamless RPA process. As meticulously planned,  the process  is deemed to  glide along like an unctuous well oiled machine. Every business rule has been set up, every conceivable scenario captured.  And yet as we switch the on button, the process comes to a grinding halt. We have seen this nightmare unravel  far too frequently  for one very not so  simple reason.  Most enterprise data resides in emails and most bots cannot read emails. Your bot hates emails.

Reading emails is a bit of science and a whole lot of  art. When we humans read emails do we read each character?  Sure we do, when we first  begin reading as toddlers.  But today as adults we read and understand at the blink of an eye. How do we do that.   We certainly do not at first read and then sequentially comprehend and then linearly conclude. No. We read, comprehend and infer simultaneously. When we are young we do this slowly but today as adults we do this cognitively.

Cognitive bots act much the same way as adorable toddlers.  Bots don’t read character by character but instead recognise patterns-patterns of words and sentences. This superpower helps them extract relevant data from emails. Gone are the days where we manually read emails and “data entered” them into spreadsheets. Cognitive bots can do that for us today. They can be deployed using drag & drop interfaces. And they learn super quickly. They recognize and can more importantly decipher names, id numbers, towns, counties, States. Unlike messy toddlers, they can obediently “  fetch and drop” into spreadsheets almost instantly.   Stipulate the rules and create structured data from emails at the drop of a mouse click.
